Be somebody…

OOOHHH YEEEEAH!! Now that the 80s babies have some life experience under our feet, it’s time for all to embrace the words that the influential and determined Rev. Jesse Jackson shouted for us to repeat, “I AM, SOMEBODY!” In reflection of the 70s, the economic climate was pressed during that time, no different than today. There were necessary shifts under the guise of equality. As well as the anxiety for people to expand and grow past their environmental circumstances (which I believe is just a humanity thing). His brief affirmation is still powerful and relevant today. And since old folk have taught me, that there’s nothing new under the sun, on today, Be Somebody Day, let’s take a moment to dissect the message to apply it in our lives. To be somebody: is a messaging of hope, acceptance, empowerment, and pursuit.

Let’s really look at those ideas separately, with definition for a clear unbiased understanding.

  • HOPE: want something to happen or be the case; a feeling of trust; a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen; grounds for believing that something good may happen

  • ACCEPTANCE: agreement with or belief in an idea, opinion, or explanation; the action of consenting to receive or undertake something offered; the action or process of being received as adequate or suitable, typically to be admitted into a group

  • EMPOWERMENT: authority or power given to someone to do something; the process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one's life and claiming one's rights

  • PURSUIT: the action of following or pursuing someone or something; to chase after

Inhale 3 long, cleansing deep breaths.

Now that you have taken the time to know the meanings of these concepts to organize some foundational principles. Think about how you have incorporated these ideas into moments of your life…

Now let’s think of how combining the ideas all together to construct or align with a higher sef-value of your 3-part being experience that we’re constantly having. We can begin to construct (or reconstruct) a progressive, positive self-image as you DREAM. PLAN. EXECUTE. REPEAT. along this new chapter of your goals!

Let’s raise our vibration on today and everyday to recite…I AM SOMEBODY!
